An extract consists of a certain percentage of true essence, or its chemical imitation, in an alcoholic, water or oil solution. A majority of natural essences are obtained by extracting the essential oil from the blossoms, fruit, roots, or the whole plants, through four techniques:

Expression: When the oil is very plentiful and easily obtained, as in lemon peel.
Absorption: This is generally accomplished by steeping in alcohol, i.e. vanilla beans.
Maceration: This is used to create smaller bits of the whole, as in making peppermint extract.
Distillation: This is used with maceration, but in many cases, it requires expert chemical knowledge and the use of stills.

Extracts are the liquid solution of herbs and water, oil or alcohol. The dried or fresh herbs are combined with the liquid, then the solid matter is removed leaving only the oils of the herbs mixed with the liquid. This process is called extraction, hence the name, herbal extract.
Alcohol extracts are commonly called tinctures, whereas extractions done by water or oil are called extracts.

All of our Extracts are processed and then blended in a 40:40 Kosher Vegetable Glycerin/Sterile Water Base. This means you get 20% active ingredient. Twice as much as most extracts currently available.

Warning: Many companies do not reveal all the ingredients in their extracts! Our extracts DO NOT contain Propylene Glycol or alcohol.
